VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE-REDEMPTION
SKINNING TUTORIAL - PART 2

BACK

Your skin is finished and now you're ready to prepare everything to package it up nicely for the game. Excellent. Next step (or you can do this in whatever order you want) is to open up Notepad. Let's say you want to name your character Samantha. In a blank Notepad document, type Samantha, then hit tab 4 or 5 times and type SAMANTHA in all caps. Save this file as Samantha.npm into a folder called C:\misc\ (or in my case it's D:\misc\) If you don't have this folder, then create it.

Now open up the NOT editor. If you don't have it then grab it from the links on my Miscellaneous downloads section. Once you have it open, minimize it and open Win-Zip (or you can do this first). In Win-Zip open the Resource.nob again and extract the file called Multiplayer.not to your C drive (or D in my case, again).

Now you're done with Win-Zip until you're ready to nob the file. Maximize the NOT editor and open the Multiplayer.not file. It should be located in C:\misc\Templates\. When it's open, click the new template button.

Expand the Multiplayer.not file and look for a template called _player_MP. Click this and drag it down to your unnamed.not file.

Let's assume that you want your character to have Lily's voice. Now that _player_MP is moved, expand it (you might want to collapse Multiplayer.not first) and select each of the other character templates except Lily or Gothgirl (which uses the same voice) and press the delete button in the toolbar (looks like a rectangle with a red cross-out symbol on it).

When only Lily or Gothgirl is left, highlight it and look for MODEL in the center column. Double-click it and a dialogue box should pop up. Change the name of the model to the name of your model you've been skinning.

Anywhere you see the name Lily (just the name by itself though) you can change it to whatever you want it to be. I'll just leave it since it isn't critical. If you want, you can even double-click where it says Toreador and change the clan, but like I said...it doesn't make all that much difference.

Go down to where it says ACTOR_HEADMODEL and change the name to that of the head model you've made, or just leave it to use the default Lily face. This is for the portrait box.

Once you've done this you're finished. There are other things you can do, such as change sounds and motions, but I'm not going to get into it in this tutorial. Save your file as whatever name you want it to be, but remember that it MUST have an underscore at the beginning of the filename, (e.g. _Samantha.not) and it MUST be saved in the \misc\Templates\ folder. Now that you're done preparing your skin files, please see my nobbing tutorial for info about how to assemble them. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you've found these lessons useful.
