VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE-REDEMPTION
NOBBING TUTORIAL
BACK
I've been asked for a nobbing tutorial, so this is it. I hope you find it informative.
To begin, let me explain to you what a nob file is. It is basically a zip file. The specifics are that the folder names are saved, and that compression is set to zero. Most nob files can only be used in the patched version of Vampire.
To create a nob file, I am assuming you have already done all the work of preparing the contents of the zip file. If not, please do that before you read this.
Now this tutorial explains the process of nobbing a skin, but you can use these techniques to nob maps, weapons, props, or anything else you might make for VTM.
For starters, go to the base drive where you have Vampire installed. Usually it's C, but in my case it's D, so I'll use that as an example.
Okay, create these folders in your main directory (D in my case.)
3d
misc
Now go into the directory 3d and create these folders.
Materials
Models
-The Materials folder is where your .tga texture files go, as well as the .nam files.
-The Models folder is where the .nod files go.

The directory you see called Motions is where custom motions go, but for now I'm assuming you're going with the default motions. Even if you're not, the steps to add them to the nob file are the same.
Go into the misc directory and create a new directory called Templates.
-The misc directory itself is where you put the .npm files.
-Templates is where the .not files go.

Okay, now that we have the directories straightened out, go and sort your files according to where they need to go. If you have trouble (for example, if you are using this tutorial to .nob a map or something) then get a file someone has already nobbed and extract it to your main directory (D in my case,) making sure you leave the option "Use folder names" checked. This will create the directories for you and you can go into them and see what file types are in there.
Once your files are sorted, open Win-Zip. Click the New button and then browse to your main Vampire directory. When you're there, type the name of your nob file, and be sure to put in the nob extension. Here's a picture.

Click OK. Now this dialogue box will appear.

This next part is important. If you mess this up, your file will not work. See where it says Compression? BE SURE that it is set to None. See where it says Folders? BE SURE that Save full path info is checked.
Now that that's out of the way, browse to the 3d folder and into the Materials folder. Select all the ones you want to add the the nob file. You can select multiple files by holding down control while you click. Once they are selected, press the Add button. Repeat this process for the Models folder, the misc folder, and the misc/Templates folder.
Go into your main vampire directory and make sure that your nob file is there and named properly (i.e. Venus2.nob, not Venus2.zip or Venus2.nob.zip.) If it's named incorrectly, look at the top of your window for View. Click it, then go to folder options. Go to the View tab. Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types. This will enable you to change the extension if it is wrong just by renaming the extension.
If everything is as it should be, then close everything and start Vampire to see your new file. Best of luck!
